Dr Sarma VVSS
Dr Sarma VVSS, Senior Principal Scientist at CSIR-National Institute of Oceanography (CSIR-NIO), (Regional Centre, Visakhapatnam) has been selected for the Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES) National Award of Excellence in Ocean Science & Technology for the year 2020 for his significant contributions in understanding the Biogeochemistry of the Indian Ocean. The award carries an award of Rs 1,00,000/- and a citation.
Dr Sarma joined CSIR on 12 July 2007 and his area of work is biogeochemical cycles. His research interests include Biogeochemistry & climate change, Nutrient Cycling & Biogeochemistry, and Chemical processes at the air-sea interface.
Dr Sarma did his graduation (BSc, Chemistry, Botany and Zoology) from Andhra University, Vishakhapatnam, in the year 1990. After MSc in Chemical Oceanography/Marine Chemistry from Andhra University, Visakhapatnam, in 1998 Dr Sarma submitted his PhD thesis on “Variability in forms and fluxes of carbon dioxide in the Arabian Sea to Goa University, India”. Dr Sarma was earlier with the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) as a Research Scientist from July 2004-July 2007
National Awards of Excellence are given for meritorious contribution in the fields of Ocean Science, Atmospheric Science & Technology, and Geosciences & Technology including Seismology and Ocean Technology/Polar Sciences to scientist/engineer/technologist/academician individually.
